My husband and I found out in September that we would be expecting our first child. We couldn't be more excited (and slightly terrified). As a teacher at a school following the traditional school calendar this was great news as Baby Miles the First will be due at the end of May. This means I will not have to miss much school and have the whole summer off to spend with baby.
Having babies is something we have been talking about for a few years now. While we were just married this past May, we have been together for the last six and half years. As we have traveled the world, lived together, obtained professional degrees while supporting each other, we have discussed family and kiddos and it has always been something we have both wanted. When we were married we were hoping to conceive early Fall so we could have our baby in May. God is great and our planning worked out!
Since we found out I have had a feeling Baby Miles the First was a girl. My husband had no opinion as he wants one of each, and we want many children so we both have been praying and hoping for a HEALTHY baby versus a particular gender. Over winter break we had two ultrasounds.
The first ultrasound was at an ultrasound clinic here in town. My mother, father, and sister were in town for it which made the gender reveal extra special. The technician had no trouble finding baby, at the time I was 17 weeks and four days. Baby looked more skeletal at this point in the gestational period but still resembled a baby. I obviously cried when seeing the baby, it seems as though every time my baby and I interact I sob... We have a name picked out but we have not committed to anything just yet nor or we ready to share. Although my husband is 100% set on the name choice and I am 98% there so it will not be long.
The second ultrasound was at my doctor's office, it was the anatomy scan and that happened at 18 and half weeks. This was a special experience my husband and I got to do together. The technician quickly found the baby and began the counting and checking of numerous body parts. We got to see two arms and two legs, two hands and two feet, ten fingers and ten toes, four chambers in the heart, two healthy hemispheres of the brain, a baby bladder, two baby kidneys, and even good ankle angles (apparently they check the angles of the ankles!).
Good news is that Baby Miles the First is healthy and growing as she should be. Which makes us happy mommy and daddy to be's. Our first tummy ultrasounds were a great success, and an amazing experience.

A blog turning my adventures and thoughts into stories and text.
One final paragraph of advice: Do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am, a reluctant enthusiast, a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it's here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You Will Outlive the Bastards.
